Year of the Snake Statement Necklace

I created this piece to celebrate the Chinese New Lunar Year of the Snake 🐍 

I used a beautiful piece of natural Agate for the base against which the snake lies and labradorite for the markings on its back.

I wanted to make this piece mostly in colours of gold and red as they hold a special place within Chinese culture. I made the flames of the sun in hand woven gold plated wire and alternated them with red agate beads.

The moon beams around the other side have been added in labradorite, black spinel and red coloured agate.

The Snake is the sixth animal in the Chinese zodiac cycle, which repeats every 12 years. It symbolises:

Wisdom and Intuition: The Snake is associated with intelligence, keen observation, and deep thought.

Mystery and Elegance: Snakes are considered mysterious and graceful, embodying beauty and sophistication.

Financial Success: In Chinese culture, the Snake is seen as a symbol of wealth and prosperity.

People born in the Year of the Snake are thought to be charming, wise, and resourceful, but they may also be secretive or overcautious.

Gold and red are considered lucky colours in Chinese culture because they symbolise prosperity, happiness, and good fortune.

Red is the most auspicious colour in Chinese tradition. It symbolises joy, success, vitality, and good luck. It is often associated with celebrations, such as weddings and the Lunar New Year, and is believed to ward off evil spirits. This belief stems from ancient myths, including the story of Nian, a monster that was scared away by the color red.

Gold represents wealth, prosperity, and good fortune. It is linked to power and success, as it resembles the colour of gold coins and treasure. Gold is often used in decorations and clothing during important festivals to attract prosperity.

These two colours are frequently paired together, especially during Chinese New Year and business openings, to enhance their positive symbolism.
