Crystal Jewellery Care Guide

Caring for Your Crystal Jewellery

With a little care, your handmade crystal jewellery can stay beautiful for years. Because our pieces use a variety of crystals, metals, and cord types, please read the specific guidance below rather than applying a one-size-fits-all approach.

Water & Showering

We recommend removing all crystal jewellery before showering, bathing, or washing your hands. Many crystals are porous and can absorb water, which may cause them to fade, crack, or lose their natural lustre over time. Prolonged water exposure can also weaken stretch cords and damage plated metal findings.

  • Shower & bath: Please remove your jewellery before getting in.
  • Swimming: Chlorinated pool water and salt water are particularly harsh — always remove pieces before swimming.
  • Rain or splashes: Brief, accidental exposure is unlikely to cause immediate damage, but dry your piece gently with a soft cloth as soon as possible.

Soap & Chemicals

Avoid contact with soap, shampoo, conditioner, perfume, hand cream, and household cleaning products. These can dull crystal surfaces, strip plating from metal components, and degrade elastic cords. We suggest putting your jewellery on as the last step of your routine, after any products have dried.

Cleaning Your Jewellery

For most pieces, a gentle wipe with a dry or very slightly damp soft cloth is all that's needed. Avoid submerging in water or using jewellery cleaning solutions unless you are confident they are safe for both the specific crystal and any metal or cord components in your piece.

  • Crystals: Use a soft, lint-free cloth. Some crystals (such as selenite, malachite, and pyrite) are particularly sensitive to moisture — a dry cloth only for these.
  • Metal findings & plated pieces: Wipe gently with a dry polishing cloth. Avoid abrasive materials that may scratch the surface or remove plating.

Mixed Gemstone & Metal Pieces

Our jewellery often combines different crystals, gemstones, and metal components in a single piece. Each material has its own care needs, so please treat mixed pieces with extra caution — follow the most conservative guidance (e.g. keep away from water and chemicals entirely) if you are unsure of the specific materials in your piece.

Safe Storage

Store your jewellery in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. UV exposure can fade certain crystals over time. Keep pieces separate to avoid scratching — a soft pouch or individual compartments in a jewellery box work well. Avoid storing in humid environments such as bathrooms. Keep pieces in resealable bags to prevent tarnishing.

General Tips

  • Remove jewellery before exercise, sport, or any physical activity.
  • Remove jewellery before sleeping to reduce strain on cords and settings.
  • Handle crystals gently — they can chip or fracture if dropped on hard surfaces.
